Photo Competition Comments

Similar to above, had the same problem with photobucket a few years back when one report was viewed too frequently in one month and photobucket stopped the photos being rendered - corrected itself when the month ended. Switched to flickr and seems to be OK (touch wood). Can also see all the photos in the competition now although a few days ago soapy's wasn't showing - cheers :)

Yeah it seems to be intermittent, in that it's also fine for me now. I wouldn't bother reposting but I'll be keeping a very close eye on it.

I wouldn't normally post mid-competition, but xslawekx's photo from Bruach na Frithe has blown my mind, what an image!

Just, er, apropos of nothing..... what do people think is the fairest way to resolve a tie in the competition?

a) Award a joint winner
b) Award it to the person with the highest number of votes for 1st place
c) Award it to the person with the highest number of votes overall

I'm leaning towards b, which if I get no dissent is what will happen if, er, this situation ever arises in the future.....

Still two days to go, might never happen

I'd say joint winner. Most sympathetic way and why not?

OK well we avoided it this month thanks to a last minute vote, but I don't like the idea of a joint winner when we have a voting system that more or less amounts to proportional representation :) I'm happy to go with whatever the consensus of people on the site is so if loads of people think a joint winner is better than we'll do that but -

I'd like to propose the following in the event that a tie happens. If there's no outcry of opposition then this is what I'll do if it ever comes up. I'll award the winner according the following criteria in the following order

1) Total score, or if tied then
2) Number of votes for 1st place, or if tied then
3) Total number of votes, of if tied then
4) Fisticuffs in the car park

My rough calculations indicate that the chances of ever having to resort to number 4 are roughly a million to one which is why I didn't spend much time thinking about it ;)

What do people think?

Fair enough, but only if the fisticuff (had to look it up) comes with a report and some wilkie murray aerial footage.

Do I have to do my own fisticuffs? Can't I challenge people to a slow bicycle race? (Academic really, as am not likely to be in the running again).

I appoint Uriah Burton (thanks to Jeremy Bolwell of geograph for this image, which came out better than mine of 10 days ago). See especially the 4th line from the bottom

Can't relly read it on my photo
