Where's the picture ? - Scotland (part 3)

Is that one answer or two? :)

Not there, anyway - the two colours of rock are a clue to the feature...

Too far north, but you're on the right lines.

Is that in reply to me or FraserHughes?

I will try near Earthquake House at Comrie or am I on the wrong fault line. The wall looks very new.

The wall may be new, but the rocks are old - some more than others. And the name of the feature is presumably about 200 years old!

(Wrong fault, still too far north.)

I assumed that the rocks were old! I am not sure but the rocks of Siccar Point or Hutton's unconformity, would fit the colour scheme of the wall. It is south of the Southern Upland Fault but Hutton identified the unconformity in 1788 so that fits with the "about 200 years ago"

Exactly there!

(Apologies for being slow to reply - I meant to post a new clue before I left for the wilds of North Uist, but didn't get a chance.)

I thought it was a smaller local fault, but I could be wrong. The contrast is just as good in the (definitely old) walls of Fast Castle, but I don't seem to have photo of that.

Haha, I've been away too and am only just back.
Re Siccar Point, I think there are a number of smaller faults associated with the closure of the Iapatus Ocean which caused the folding and uplift of the greywacke sandstone that had formed on the bed of the ocean approx 430 MA . The Old Red Sandstone was deposited some 50 million years later on top of the eroded and deformed greywacke. ie there was a significant gap or unconformity in the geological record. I knew as soon as I saw your photo that it represented an unconformity close by and should have thought of Siccar Point but because I live near the HBF and the surrounding landscape looked vrey like near here, I went for the HBF.
To cool us off in this hot weather here is a photo from the winter. Where is this trig point?

Time for a clue , perhaps.
The trig point is on a distinct summit that hasn't got a major classification but has various, more obscure ones. It is on one of the routes to a more well known hill.

Nobody even hazarding a guess? Another clue; the main hill often confounds people with its pronounciation. I hope I don't set too many hares running.

Good clues :)

Carn Chois.

So how do you pronounce the main hill!

Carn Chois.
Thats the one. I have heard Ben Chonzie pronounced as it is spelt, as Ben Conzie and as Ben-y-Hone.I have always used the last form.
Over to you.

I've heard both so who knows.

Heres a popular hill hidden under the mist yesterday.
