I thought it looked Shiel-ish, then your road comment and Munro comment narrowed it down to a non-Munro corrie!

Serves me right for not looking at the picture and seeing the bridge!

Yes, that's what's in the picture, though I was further away from that at Uags.

Your go.

It surprises me just how far away, and from what weird angles that bridge is visible. Now for one far inland, and there's no bridge there now...

Where is this relaxing view....?

It has a look of the eastern Cairngorms where various bridges have been lost (and replaced) by flooding in the past but I can't think which haven't been replaced.

It is indeed the Eastern Cairngorms, just downstream from where a bridge was destroyed - not by flooding, by idiots!

Yes! Just outside the bothy. The bridge in question used to carry the track across to Luibeg Cottage, the original Bob Scott's old place. The bridge was destroyed about twenty years ago when some estate workers who must remain nameless (J.D. and Rory) took a JCB across, only it plummeted through the central span and wrecked the bridge. The bloke driving the JCB thought his time had come, and set up a howling which was answered by howls of laughter from everyone else. To add to his woes, a spare wheel for the JCB was in the digger bucket but landed on top of the cab due to the impact, and he couldn't escape. The bridge could have been repaired but the new estate owners, the NTS and SNH , were very much into removing all man-made things on the estate, so they removed the piers and the rest of the bridge. We had the benefit of loads of excellent bridge-related firewood at the bothy, it lasted ages and burnt with a fierce heat, being impregnated with years of tar wood treatment. Shame about the bridge though...

Thanks, Caberfeidh - that's a great story, which I hadn't heard before!
