Thanks very much! It is funny how you remember some places. I've been up the two Gables many times, almost every time from either Wasdale or Honister Pass. The one time I descended Gillercombe was back in 1980.

Had to resort to googling Cumbrian stone circles, but am going with Long Meg. (I only know Castlerigg, though have vaguely heard of the others that come up)

Correct - apart from Stonehenge, it’s the most impressive stone circle I’ve seen in the UK, made even better by the views all around of Blencathra, Helvellyn and Cross Fell.
