I've no idea, so I'll guess Lathkill Dale, Derbyshire.

For somebody with no idea, that's absolutely spot on! Sneaked a couple of hours there after a work appointment in Bakewell a couple of weeks back. Lovely place, hadn't been for 30 years.

All yours...

Well I guessed Derbyshire and then I guessed again, after a wee bit of googling.

Short of pics, so one which may need some more googling.
Where am I?

On reflection this may be just a bit too obscure, so a little clue. It was taken on one of my local wanders.

At the bottom of the ash avenue there is a Ladywell, see below
ladywelloxon.jpg

An old tradition has it that on Palm Sunday local girls would process down the ash avenue to the well as described below

Just over the boundary, in the parish of ******** is an old well of beautiful clear water, surrounded by a wall, with stone steps going down to it. It is called the Lady’s Well, and on Palm Sunday the girls go there and take bottles with Spanish juice (liquorice), fill the bottles, walk round the well”

Correct. Though I bet it took a bit of googling. 😁 A regular amble of mine into the nextdoor Parish. Your go.

Thanks CharlesT!

yes I don't usually bother to do the puzzles if I have to Google - I'm too lazy! But your information about it intrigued me, so I decided to find out more! Will have to visit it next time I'm in the area.

There seems to be varying information about when the custom died out, but sources seem to confirm it was still going in the early years of the 20th century.

Where is this? (I suspect CharlesT may get this one very quickly...)

Could it be that very Welsh Crib y Garth, or English Black Hill, that most would think was the wrong side of the border in the Black Mountains? Sneaky...

It is and it's in Herefordshire, albeit the Welsh might claim it, as if they haven't enough hills of their own.
Your go.
