On the right lines - it is not too far away from Ben Lawers.... a few miles west. However the large loch that nearly gets into the photo is not Loch Tay... it is somewhere much less visited.

The Munro I am standing on is a familiar sight from a main road, a railway and a well known hotel, but it is a bit overshadowed by its more famous neighbour - which rises south-west of the corrie I'm looking towards.

It's amazing what wild guesswork and poring over maps will do! How about this one? Which corrie lies up the hill from here?

Which corrie lies up the hill to my right?

Is this Glen Lyon and the corrie above would be Gleann Da-Eig? Great photo!

(Which has just got me thinking. I crossed Gleann Da Eig last year, higher up the valley, and I assumed it meant Valley of Two Eggs. But it occurs to me it could be a variant spelling of Gleann Da Eag - valley of the two notches, referring to this dramatically notched rock outcrop?)

I don't have a better theory, but where is the other notch?

You’re right - just fanciful speculation by me.

But I do wonder where those two eggs are!

I'm not sure where the "egg" translation comes from (it is given by Chris Townsend in his Cicerone Scotland book). Egg is ugh in Gaelic, so eag = notch does seem more likely. There is also a Gleann Da Ghob (Glen of the two beaks) nearby (NE of Meall Greigh).

Yes! There's another photo which is even better for having me in it beside the rock for scale. I like the translation of notches, it is a very notched land thereabouts. Over to you, O Semi-Titanious One.

Thanks! Yes, Glen Lyon is so beautiful, one of these days I will take the time to explore it more.

What is the corrie top right?

Cheers. It's been many a long year since I was up there - a beautiful winter's day in the 80s.

What is the corrie in the back right of this photo?
