This is taking some time, another clue might help:- The E of EO is probably better known for a religious establishment.

I think another clue is in order, and this should be the last one:- E is also noted for being very dull (as in lack of sunshine) and very wet at times, probably because of EO.

Ah! Now I have it, the wettest place in Britain, Eskdalemuir, and hence Eskdalemuir Observatory.

Well done Charles, Eskdalemuir Observatory is correct, the SS is the associated Seismic Station, which is situated about 3km north of the Observatory on the B709 at about NT241054. Named as a Seismological Station on my copy of Landranger 79. The religious establishment is the Kagya Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery & Tibetan Centre.

Over to you.

Thanks Tinto, was flummoxed until the last clue.

TL once saw the divine reprieve of a saintly mother, reputedly.

Still no takers? Another clue then. Thought to have been the principal iron age settlement of the local tribe before this became Din Eiydn.

Traprain Law, East Lothian? Home of the Votadini tribe. Thanks for the Dun Eiydn clue.

Correct, at last. I thought it would go much quicker. It's a volcanic plug, laccolith, the rest can be looked up by those so inclined. Btw it is Din Eiydn which was a dun, just to be pedantic. :D

Your go.

Not Eye Water Charles, but you are on the right lines. When I was in Iceland in 1964, I came down to dinner one night to find a half cooked sheep's head on the plate, reputedly the eye was a delicacy, needless to say I didn't try it! We were staying in a SA hostel at the time. There is a clue hidden above.
