Well, Caberfeidh has been on the site, but hasn't revisited this thread, so I'll pick it up again with an easy one now I am back from collecting Wainwrights.
The SoD is now where it belongs

Another clue. The location is on an island, the dispute over the right to parts of led to the near destruction of both of the combatants.

In later times both combatant clans lost out as the island was gifted to another powerful clan.

Correct, gaelic Blar Traigh Ghruineart which I had in mind. One of the cases where the English and Gaelic initials are the same.
