The lady in question is remembered by a striking modern sculpture on the bank of a river.

Discover her and the rest should be easy.

She also founded and was interred alongside her pre-deceased husband and the bit of him she carried about in a box in a nearby abbey(with a charming name) now in ruins.

The original MoU is the largest of its type in Scotland and it's in D&G.

After a little creative research and the latest clue I've got to Motte of Urr, but not the BC as I don't think that it is Barholm Castle?

I think it is Baliiol College, Oxford as the land belonged to John Baliol. I had thought that for some time, then went off to Stornoway bagging, and forgot about it, and never knew about Motte of Ur

Give it to Tinto, as otherwise I wouldn't have got the BC (if indeed it is correct).

Correct, at last! BC is Buittle Castle, which came to John Balliol through his marriage to Devorguilla of Galloway, the noble lady to whom I have been referring. She paid for the establishment of Balliol College and also established Sweetheart Abbey, where she was buried alongside her pre-deceased husband, together with his embalmed heart which she carried in a casket throughout her life. A sculpture of her is situated on the banks of the Nith.

That's enough medieval history for now.

Your go.

Definitely Tinto, since Baliol College is only peripheral.

Thanks for that, rewarded for a half-right answer! And then I remembered that a former work colleague moved to Haugh of Urr some years ago.....

An easy one this time. CH is between Bermuda and Sebastopol.

That's the one Charles, either you have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Lammermuir Hills or your Gazetteer is better than my ninth edition reprint (1950) of Bartholomew's.

Over to you.

No, but Bermuda ahd Sebastopol pinned it down to Lauderdale and the rest followed.

DC was the name given by its occupiers to what was originally called NA in English, in deference to its founder and benefactor, and translates literally to the name by which it has become known.

NA should have read more properly NAP, though its remains lie within NA, the NA being the same for each. For clarity, DC is not Gaelic nor English and perhaps ought to be ADC. Hope that helps. :D

Thanks for the clarification Charles, it is now about as clear as.....stirred mud...... but just for super clarification can you confirm that NA has absolutely nothing to do with Nunraw Abbey?

I can so, it has nothing to do with Nunraw Abbey, though you are on the right lines.

It is closely associated with elements of the answer to my immediately previous puzzle.

This sounds like what was originally known as Abbey of Dulce Cor or New Abbey Pow, now known as Sweetheart Abbey. And founded by Dervorguilla of Galloway , as is mentioned in CharlesT's previous answer.
