Correct. During the seige of Dunnottar Castle 1651-3 by Cromwell's men, the Honours of Scotland (Crown Jewels of Scotland) were smuggled out of the Castle by the minister's wife and hidden under the floorboards of the church where they remained until 1660 when Charles II was restored to the throne. Kinneff Old Church is on one of my regular walks from home and there is a replica of the crown jewels on display there.

Thanks, an interesting tale. Well done them. My mother, an Irish Gael, considered Cromwell to be the Devil incarnate and anything that thwarted him was much applauded. They have long memories in the Irish West.

Some of Scotland's darker days were experienced in the GSWHs.

Inventive, but no. The first coincided with a regnal publication.

Slightly misleading here. Should have said the second not the first.

The publication referred to is said to have provided the inspiration for the weird elements of a theatrical tragedy.

Ah-ha! The Scottish play, so I'll guess the W stands for Witch, and S for Scottish and hey presto, the Great Scottish Witch Hunts. I was thinking the King James Authorised Version for the regnal publication, which threw me at first.

Excellent choice for International Women's Day, Charles.

Slightly contrived on my part but Calmac ferries as in Skye to Tarbert, Arran to Ardrossan.

No, no islands involved.

In days of yore, I would have listed W and P instead of S and A.

Well I suppose I should drop my quest of looking for stations that begin with S and T where the journey time is the same as Arbroath to Aberdeen then. Or shouldn't I?
