Came to similar conclusion Tinto, so let's assume it is about a watchtower somewhere, possibly in an Old Castle somewhere, but a somewhere Charles knows about and Mr. Google doesn't. Thoreau is into howling winds as well, but I don't think that helps.

You're making progress. There were about two dozen of these, some extant some not. Whether they had a material effect could be questioned. There's another clue lurking therein.

Hint of desperation there! :shock: Old Calton dates from the early 18th century, what I'm after dates from the 15th.

If you think of another name for these things it may ring a bell.
