Well, I've thought it was the Ba Game, but can't figure the AVG bit. Maybe someone else can take it from here.

Ditto, I have been scouring the street maps of Kirkwall, Jedburgh, Duns and Scone...maybe there are others.

You are both on the right lines.... who will get to the winning post first?

Final clue: this VG has a MC.

If it's handball, I think it has to be a Borders one, as Kirkwall considers theirs to be football! Smaller games in Denholm and Ancrum...

Yes, well done, a good collaborative effort, it is Ancrum Village Green. And I agree that nigheandonn should take the credit. Over to you.

We happened to chance on the hand ba game taking place on 24 February - we had lunch at the Cross Keys, Ancrum which does a good pub lunch.

The Royal Crest of Scotland is not really a Royal Crest as it now symbolises the nation instead of the Queen (or preceding Kings back to James 1st and 6th.)

That may well be true, but it's not what I was thinking of :)

You're right though that it's a thing rather than a place, although a less abstract thing (it is *in* a place!)

The Royal Coronation Stone at Scone is not Royal Coronation (though it is a stone) since it is one of the replicas made by the people who stole it in 1950, and the real one is buried somewhere else and will re-emerge when/if Scotland is a nation again. (subject to terms and conditions).

The sign pointing to this object under the 'wrong' name is beside a building with the same name on it.

OK, I am now postulating that ASS stands for Aberlemno Standing stones, and there is a notice near them referring to R.......Celtic Cross, but as I can't find out what R might be suspect I am WRONG (as usual).
