Is it something to do with the Monkland Canal? Bankhesd Siding, Bankhill and the inclined plane?

Not there Charles. Think Caledonian (pre1923).

That seems to be a reference to the Caledonian Railway, but I am flummoxed. Really want someone else to step in and end my misery.

Well that pretty much spelled it out for me. Beattock Summit and the banking locos required at times (knew naught of the latter).

(and the times I've driven over Beattock!)

That's right Charles, BS was Beattock Shed and the bankers were the locomotives that assisted trains the 10 miles up to Beattock Summit. Now you'll need to find out about the train that was known as "the Siege".

Over to you.

I'm going for Finnich Glen as FG, and may be a Devil's Pulpit there? Wild guesses if not, I'll try Fairy Glen and Dark Pool

Bloody Bankers. I know more about the financial system of Scotland than I ever needed or wanted

The Bride of Lammermoor became Lucia di Lammermoor when Donizetti used Walter Scott's novel as a basis for his opera.

Well "d" had to be de, di or d' and the rest followed.

NR has the best preserved structure of its kind in Scotland, albeit tiny.

Searching a UK map for this could prove fruitless, but there's no-one there to complain.
