Well, that leads me to Merrick, which google tells me is part of the range of hills known as The Awful Hand, which I was wholly ignorant of and where I have never been.

Where were your southerly compatriots I ask?

Southerly compatriots probably still tangled up in Galloway tussocks and far from the Wi Fi. The hills in this range are not as awful as e.g. their neighbours Dungeon Hill and Mullwarcher. BTW, old grey men obviously know that sugar is the source of all evil and this one refused to sample my choc bar.

Your go Charles.

Thank you. My cluttered mind is now more so.

Ultimately unsuccessful, it was hoped that the HI would spark new life in L.

That's it. I have fond memories of them, goodness knows why! An entertaining drive, if a bit wayward.

Your go

Thanks Charles, we also have fond memories of a hired Hillman Imp, almost exactly 50 years ago my wife managed to drive many miles up the M1 towards Sheffield at 65mph in one in third gear! But they were practical cars and could hold a lot more luggage than a Mini - for that journey we managed to get a full size coach-built pram in the back plus our first daughter.

Now try this one:- BS, home to bankers.

Time for a clue:- Nothing to do with the Scottish equivalent of Threadneedle Street.

Clutching at a straw or two, is it Broadwood Stadium? Bankers msybe a nickname of a sports team?

Incidentally, my first daughter travelled north to meet her grandmother in 1975 in a carrycot on the rear bench seat of a TR4A, so much for 'elf and safety. :D

Interesting idea, but not Broadwood (or any other) Stadium. Clydebank FC are known as The Bankies and now play in the West Premiership in Scottish football. This BS was active 1847 - 1967.

Have s rather non-confident go at Brown's Shipyard or Shipbuilders. Roughly fits the dates and I'm guessing bankers is a reference to Clydebank. Thought it was properly called John Brown though.

Not there Charles. This clue should get you there:- the main purpose of the bankers at BS was assistance and hard work to a high point ten miles north, also BS.
