Is it worthwhile thinking B is a battleship as I can't think of any other B where the following word varies.

B is not a battleship but you are right in thinking of something very big (and often grey). TTs were inside several Bs of which BC is the most famous, but one of the two BVs is another well known one.

An extra clue which you may enjoy unravelling - unlike their namesake, TTs did not drink all the water in the taps. Some of them (for example at LK) did quite the opposite.

I think I need to be an engineer for this. I think the big grey things are barriers or dams, but I don't know where BC is. I suspect one of the T's is Tiger (after the tiger who came to tea) and there are pipes called Tigers in barriers, so maybe TT is a triple tiger. I give up. I suspect LK is Loch Katrine.

You have solved it, well done!

"The "tunnel tigers", who drank, fought, gambled and spent money like water when not risking life and limb in the heart of the hills." https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle-2-15039/tunnel-tigers-1-608825

Here is my riddle, written out in full.

Ben [or Beinn] is not a battleship but you are right in thinking of something very big (and often grey).

Tunnel Tigers were inside several Bens of which Ben Cruachan is the most famous, but one of the two Ben Vorlichs is another well known one. [that is, the tunnels through Ben Vorlich supplying the Loch Sloy hydro scheme]

An extra clue which you may enjoy unravelling - unlike their namesake, Tunnel Tigers did not drink all the water in the taps. Some of them (for example at Loch Katrine) did quite the opposite. [that is, they built the tunnels which put the water in the taps of Scottish cities]

More about the Tunnel Tigers can be found in The Scotsman article link above, and see also https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tunnel-Tigers-First-hand-Account-Highlands/dp/1842820729. The work was dangerous but well paid, and they were also known as "Weekend Millionaires" in towns such as Oban.

I am very ashamed I didn't get it properly. I used to have a biography of Tom Johnston, the Secretary of State for Scotland immediately post WW2, and read about it there, and then of course I dipped into "The Hydro" when I got it for a customer. Lots of Polish ex servicemen turned their hands to that.

I think the Ben Cruachan Dam is the only major Highland industrialisation project my daughter studied in Highers that is still on the go.

CB, JR and GS

I think you did solve it! - you got the Tigers bit which was the main thing.

Tom Johnston... an interesting figure.

I will have a think about CB, JR and GS, although they are probably beyond my limited knowledge!

"Our Noble Families" was an interesting book. It detailed how the the various families had come by their land originally. He made the basic case for abolishing the House of Lords, which we have taken on board to the extent of reducing the hereditary element.

Yes, all Scottish weather forecasters. I thought if I added KQ it would be far too obvious. Didn't even need it as a back up clue. All yours Charles

Thanks, nice clue.
JJ produced the first P in Scotland and was appointed to an august body later.

Jacob Joyce invented a pump, but I don't know if it was the first in Scotland (uspect not)

Afraid not Jacob Joyce, my JJ was renowned in his field and laid claim to be the father of it in Scotland.

John Jamieson could have claimed to be the first philologist in Scotland and was the father of the SND......don't suppose so.

Afraid not, again. JJ was eventually expelled from the august body, his passion having impoverished him, but his name lives on in over 700 forms, with yet more to be identified.
