Sorry folks. I never noticed that Charles had replied. Thanks to Sgurr for nudging me. I have to say that I used to live close to The Pineapple and visited it often. This is a bit further from my home turf.

Know evidence of a PO here now

Well, let's just get Post Office out of the way first. Our Crown Post Office has become an upmarket restaurant and the PO function stuffed into a branch of John Menzies.

You are right about it being Post Office but you do not have the right one. Is it a good restaurant? There is a clue in my first post on this current poser.

In Newtongrange haven't they put the PO services into a library (Know)?

You have spotted that Know is significant but the location is more of a Walkhighlands location than a built one although I only know of a couple of handfuls of people having made it there as a leisure pursuit. I hope this goes soon as I hope to be setting off for the Watershed early tomorrow morning and will be conserving my phone battery for the next few days!

As far as I know Kirk o' Shotts is the only ex Post Office transmission tower in Scotland, but I can't really link it up with "know", still I'll give it a go.

In one geographical sense you are moving closer but maybe Know is lacking a final flourish. Otherwise as far as my knowledge extends it is mentioned in one book, one poem and one Walkhighlands TR but in no Post Office records. Of course it maybe mentioned in other places.

NB I have had to delay my trip to the Watershed by a day due to forgetting to do something really important involving my van insurance.... aaargh! This means I will be able to respond all day tomorrow.

Well, should I be looking at all the Knowes? I have, but in a desultory sort of way.

You have it! Post Office Knowe in the Craik Forest. It is buried in the forest and is on the Watershed between Cherry Lair and Archie Hill (my talk of the Watershed wasn't a clue BTW but I thought it may nudge you in the right direction). Apart from the name, the origin of which is lost, it is totally unremarkable and is barely a rise in the terrain. It is mentioned in Peter Wright's book but not in Dave Hewitt's or Chris Townsend's. I mention it in my TR of that section of the Watershed. Kirk o' Shotts is geographical linked as it is also on the Watershed. Maybe I should have put the "K" in as an initial but I thought that would make it much harder so hid Knowe in the clue.

To answer your earlier question, I've never tried the restaurant in the old Post office here, I was so incensed at losing the Post Office, and they have broken all the promises they made e.g. the new one might have less stances but they would all be manned. I googled Knowe Post Office and just got Carrick Knowe Post Office...I don't think I REALLY got it, but as you are off soon, will think of something. Good luck with the watershed walk. Doing nothing so exciting as R is off to see if he can get a new knee next week.

Some people think there are two of TP, but logically speaking there is just one.
