As I have a personal connection with Newbattle Abbey College I'll go with that although I have no idea what EM refers to.

OK, EM was just a clue for NAC because I thought Edwin Muir might be more famous than it, but maybe I am just biased because I discovered he briefly lived in my house....don't tell me you had to look him up on Wikipedia.

Thank you. I have a personal connection with the College and was handed their new Guide Book last week. There is a complete paragraph to Edwin Muir and his contribution to the education of notable authors; and I missed it. Another contribution to my education.

LS is tiny and even so you wouldn't want to dabble your toes there.

First of all - No. :( Now as for further clues; well what have you got? :?
It is small
It can be considered dangerous (watch your toes)
It has a waterline so contains water
It is above ground (Leith was silly, really)
It is appropriate to catch fish (take a strong line)

You are now heading in the right direction from Largs to Lismore (forget Leith) but keep going
It is on the OS map

Now stop finning around. :D

Loch Sloy???? There was an access tunnel with “strictly no access – danger of spalling”.... you can fish or dip your toes in it and the Loch Sloy beer is brewed with Castle Danger spruce (allegedly).

It's still a NO :( but you are both closer and further away :? Consider Largs to Lismore and the wrong turn you made.
If you want somewhere else to look I could give 225 pages.
