Are you going to give us a hint, or let us stew in our ignorance?

That was a clue, and Rohan has nearly cracked it , before it moved to M, it was BCC.

Oh, and by the way, cricket is often played on the Meadows, but not at MCC.

I'm not sure whether they play on a former hayfield but did Milngavie Cricket Club used to be called Bearsden CC?

You were closer last time....remember...its just not cricket. Although it is called MCC, and is just across the road from M it is actually situated on BL, which is much more closely associated with another sport....

Indeed it is, previously known as Bush Croquet Club.

Over to you, and a very Happy Christmas to all followers of this fascinating and sometimes infuriating thread.

Thanks Tinto. Wimbledon started as a Croquet club, eventually being taken over by Tennis, and the rest is history as they say.

Happy Christmas to all and one to test you.

K,R is the earliest such known.

As it's the season of goodwill, a little help. R might be better known as the location of the somewhat incongruous KC one of whose dissenters referred to it as "...without a redeeming feature.. a loathsome edifice. It perpetuates only the memory of the worst kind of ..... lairds… a hideous affront, but nothing that a good fire and subsequent demolition couldn’t rectify"

of course it was Croquet! Back to Charles poser, are we talking about the stone age settlement at Kinloch on Rum. The loathsome edifice of KC being Kinloch Castle.

We are. Mesolithic, and the oldest known to date for Scotland. I was clearly too kind with my additional information, I will rectify that next time.

Your go.

Thanks Charles. I did think perhaps you had too much Christmas Spirit, I had already figured that it would be something ancient but didn't have time to look at it furtther when you posted it. I had in, an effort to protect the NHS cancelled my plans for Christmas and stayed at home then succeeded in tripping up on the way out to the bin on Christmas Eve. Friday night was spent in a very busy A&E (first proper snow and ice of the season) . I was temporarily patched up but was told a) to have someone check on me every 2 hrs through the night (this had to be done by phone so little sleep for me and my daughter in Edinburgh and b) return to ARI for 08.00 so plastics could put my face back together properly. Instead of a socially isolated Christmas protecting the NHS I was surrounded by a lot of very caring but busy people, I had my Christmas dinner cooked for me and no clearing up to do after. I had a very non covid Christmas in many senses with just a little pain to go through (6 needles in the face for the local). When I eventually got home and finished zooming with family, I read your clue and got it straight away. I found it reassuring that my mental capacity had not been impaired anymore than normal. Merry Christmas one and all.

S got rid of BO

Sorry to hear of your mishap, hope you mend ok and quickly. No thoughts as yet on your poser, think I'll have a mince pie and ponder.

And here was me griping on Christmas morning about overcooking the breakfast sausages. Get well soon.

Haven't a clue about your puzzle. I'm guessing S isn't a person?

Oh dear Rohan, that sounded PAINFUL, I hope you are on the mend. I am guessing the S is something like a Selkie, or a mythical something, but can't get very far with BO, unless they banished Body odour once and for all by stopping being human????
