If you see S0, you might also see E's LP.

Edinburgh's Lord Provost had an illegal car number plate S0 because the 0 was too close to the S so they had to change it but I don't see how that fits.

DVLA is in Wales? if you have a car (I don;t currently) you have to pay for the car registration issued through DVLA. They are all unique but possibly S 0 wasn't because of a mistake by DVLA ?

When I put this question up I was looking to see if S0 was unique in being the only single letter plus zero number plate in Scotland....

Quite right, S0 is the numberplate on Edinburgh Council's official car, this goes back a fair time, possibly as long ago as 1903 when car registrations were first introduced, evidently some (many?) Councils issued their early numbers before realising that they had not reserved 1 for their own use. They were given permission to use 0, and a number of Council's took advantage. In Scotland Edinburgh S0, Glasgow G0 and Aberdeen RG0 did this. However, at the present time only S0 and V0 are shown on the DVLA databases as taxed and MOT'd. V0 was originally issued in Lanarkshire, and could well still be held by a Council, although I have never seen it.

At one time S0 was on a Rolls Royce, but is now on a 2014 BMW 730d. I was hoping someone would have checked and told me that the MOT expires on 25/08/21, and it is taxed until 30/09/21.

I hadn't heard the story about the letters on the number plate being incorrectly spaced, at one time this was very common, but not so much these days.

Glad you spotted the DVLA connection, over to you.

I would not have got there without Glengavel and the Lord Provost (did you know that Ecclefechan has a connection with Wales?). I thought that Council's were selling off their number plates as they are worth a few bob. Seems that they are more keen to close libraries.
Try this for size, BV was the largest of its kind but not to be confused with BV that was also the largest of its kind.

Is one of them the Berwick Viaduct which is half English and half Scottish and the longest road viaduct? And the other the Balochmyle viaduct which is the tallest?

You are half right but one is wrong and the features you identified are not what they share (but are different!).

It is not but given you have got to the essence of the poser I am going to give it to you.
The 2nd viaduct is Borrodale (Fort William to Mallaig line) which had the largest mass concrete span in the world when it was constructed in 1897 The viaduct is faced in granite. Concrete was used as it was easier to work with than the local schist.
The other one is the Ballochmyle Viaduct on the Glasgoe- Carlisle line which at the time of construction (1848) had the largest masonry span in the World and is still the highest viaduct (52m) in Britain.
