Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Kolbein Hruga aka Cubbie Roo built Cubbie Roo's Castle according to the Orkneyinga Saga.

If I'm correct I'll cede my go to Sgurr, for effort.

At least I have never heard of him. Orkneying saga obviously something for the ever growing book pile.

You are indeed correct! Hruga apparently means "heap" in Old Norse which I think means Kolbein was a big lad - hence the association with the 'giant' Cubbie Roo
Cubbie Roo's Castle is located on the small island of Wyre, and I visited it a few years ago; however all my photos of it appear to be gone - lost I suspect on an old mobile phone that can no longer be located let alone activated!

Over to you Sgurr...

No, the thing they have in common is not cancelled, and people are grateful.

What a shame that LL did not have what these have, it could have saved some recent headlines.

Lifeguarded beaches. I'll let someone else fill in the details and have the next go.

The deaths at Loch Lomond and eleswhere are very tragic indeed. I am surprised there haven't been more rescues/accidents around the coast ( apart from the kayakers who thankfully were rescued). As someone who swims in lochs and sea (less often now) I know how tempting the water is.
Broughty Ferry. Coldingham Bay and Elie Harbour are all Lifeguarded Beaches.

EXCELLENT Charles and Rohan. Your turn Rohan, since Charles doesn't seem to be setting at present. . I didn't even have to use my pictorial clue. East and West Sands St. Andrews are both lifeguarded as well. I put up my puzzle before the awful deaths at Loch Lomond.

Yes, I realised that. You must have hoped that it had gone sooner. I'll post something later. Thanks for the hint, Charles.

I had expected this to go quickly due to Sgurr's interests and ability to keep up with recent news (albeit this is from earlier this year).

I have been looking up Scots theologians, enemies of Mary Queen of Scots, and famous galley slaves to see if I can find a DS to go with John Knox. But I can't. Should I relinquish the idea that he is JK? If indeed it is a person at all?

Stop looking in the history books and put all thoughts of theologians, Royalty and slaves out of your mind. Both DS and JK are still living.
