No, it's not items of clothing. Although the residents are (reputedly) known for wearing a certain item and eschewing another.

Is that "All fur coat and no knickers" misspelt? To confuse perhaps?😁
In that context I was thinking M might be Morningside but can't work out K.

You may well be right, see my interpretation of AFCANN, one of my mother's sayings substituting K for the last N.
