I now have discovered that this is Lewis Capaldi from Whitburn. Songs Someone You Loved and Before You Go.

I have never heard of him.

One dimensional is an apt description of most "popular" music.

TH followed a profession abroad arguably at odds with that for which he is now remembered.

His activities in Sweden saw him become CTH and he later promoted himself to CTH for the purpose of finding employment, the C's being different but related.

Tobias Hume, musician and soldier. He served with the Swedish and Russian Armies and reached the rank of Captain but later described himself as Colonel Tobias Hume.

Very good. I thought it might take longer. Didn't get to use my "Humors" clue. He filched quite a few airs, but also composed some original works for the viol. Worth a listen if you like that sort of thing. A contemporary of Shakespeare and there is a suggestion he may have been the model for Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night.

Your go.

I had a bit of help from Mx Google and a very long list that I reference from time to time.

Try this

A lot of people are dying for a performance of C, but there is some controversy as to its origins.

Not Carver, no. I'm not even sure who or what Carver is!

Your assumption is correct, it's not that.

Coincidentally, the word C has featured in at least 2 previous puzzles on this thread in past 3 years.

The only repeats I can find are Castle and Craig. but I have only taken a speed reading look and can find no rationale for them...except than someone called Craig writes "perofrmance books" under Craig on Theatre.

Rather coincidentally in the 2 words you have 3 letters correct. C plus 2 others.
