I suspected from the beginning that P was Paisley, given its industrial past, but couldn't find anything that fitted on thread spinning.
Then I was drawn into a interesting blind alley regarding Shanks and his Barrhead Tubal Works, part of the noble ancestry of Armitage Shanks.
I knew about the witch hunt (it was the last large witch hunt in the whole of Europe) but I didn't know the details. Like the Pendle witch trial in England, credence was given to a child's evidence, which would not have been permitted in any other kind of trial.
