or Rotten Boroughs perhaps?...

HMHT has made a significant breakthrough there, though no cigar as yet... :)

Is it James Macpherson who had the rotten borough of Camelford, in Cornwall (Celtic connections) and was famous for "translating" Ossian.

Correct! James Machperson of Ossian fame came in for Camelford in the 1780 election as 'arranged by the Government... at a cost of £4000', holding one of the two seats in the tiny borough containing about 20 voters, until his death in 1796.

Over to you!

I was handed the Rotten Boroughs, or would never have got it.

1 x 7 trumps 10 in the case of MG

Is this a political thing? 10 = Number 10?

It s about a politician, but 10 isn't anything to do with Number 10.

I guessed MG might be Michael Gove, who is, by some definitions of the word, Scottish, so after a bit of research:

Michael Gove attended the Champions League Final last month, was potentially exposed to COVID and had to self-isolate. Rather surprisingly  a new pilot scheme meant he only had to self isolate for one day and have daily tests for a week, rather than self-isolate for ten days.

Spot on Glengavel. Born in Aberdeen, went to Robert Gordons and served a stint on the Press and Journal: I think that qualifies as more Scottish than me. I have only lived here since 1964 though kids and grandkids mostly speak with a Scots accent. At least, I didn't go to Eton. I found it unsurprising that as a Cabinet Minister he was allowed to have 7 x 1 tests as opposed to the full Monty of 10 days quarantine.

Aberdeen has some famous sons and daughters that they make more of than Gove so much so I was taken aback a few years ago to discover that he was an Aberdonian. The PnJ possibly celebrates him but I haven't read particular rag since its appalling sycophantic support for Trump due to the editor being married to Trumps executive vice -president. Nb I did miss this piece of news whilst I was away, can't say I 'm sorry!
