Sorry,I can't detect anything that relates to the correct answer.

After intensive investigation, involving a large cast working away in the background, I have detected that Sgurr has part of one of the words in her answer.

Since the advent of the Scottish Sevens, something or other has switched....yes, Macrae, Colin has swithched from being the SS's defence coach to coaching Edinburgh. (I suspect all of this is arrant nonsense and therefore WRONG)

There is a number (there is a clue in your first answer) in the answer but it is not seven. MC did play with a ball at one time but not (as far as I know) a rugby ball. MC is now playing a different role. Between SS and now MC has appeared in various different personas

I don't suppose MC is Master of Ceremonies, or you would have put MoC

No, you are on the wrong line there. No other small words attached to SS or MC.

Is SS the Swinging Sixties? It's the only six-ish thing I can think of in one of Sgurr's previous answers.

No, the word Scottish doesn't come into the poser. Six is only there as part of a bigger whole. There are hidden clues in my answers but you are still not sucking on diesel. MC is probably better known as SA, at least at the moment.

Could this be the Ken Loach film Sweet Sixteen? Martin Compston played a troubled teenager in Greenock - whereas I think he now plays a cop in Line of Duty (never seen it but the Internet tells me he plays a character called Steve Arnott)

Correct.15 million apparently tuned in to the 1st episode of the current series of Line of Duty but possibly none who take part in this thread apart from me. Martin Compston plays a copper investigating bent coppers and their links to organised crime. This in contrast with with his role in Sweet Sixteen where he became caught up in cimimal activity. Martin Compston never trained as an actor and joined Greenock Morton FC (his local team) as a professional footballer when he left school then auditioned and got the parrt of Liam in SS. He has had other roles in between.
Over to you.

Well done Sgurr!

I knew about because my daughter’s doing A level maths.

More impressive is how did you solve it so quickly!

(Unless of course there is a Ken Loach film called Two Men and a Goose, about maths professors on a Scottish-Polish exchange scheme)
