John Macdouall Stuart played a prominent role in overlanding (i.e. talking the Australian telegraph overland from North to South).Probably wrong, as I have invented the "O" though not what he did.

Unlike recent questions, this is not recent events, although it was around this time of year.

Briefly hoped it might be the Open at the Old, but can't find any suitable players. Not an organiser?

JMS had a son PKS who represented Scotland in an entirely different field.

Those are clues to the names of the beaches for the D-Day landings. James Martin Stagg was the Met Office officer who persuaded Eisenhower to delay landing for a day. Never heard of him until you gave those clues. HIs son, Peter Kidner Stagg is an ex Scotland rugby player and crowd-funded a memorial to his father in his home town of Dalkeith. Phew. O and O is Overlord and Omaha (I think) I had tried googling James M.S.....without success, and Peter K, S ditto. I even tried combinations of boys names and think I did try James Martin S, but only got things like James Martimn STicky Toffee pudding. That was a hard one.

"Out on the hills?" Was wandering round Fife on Sunday https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=3930168707100474&set=pcb.10158475349956680

OO is Operation Overlord. The picture clues are the D-Day beaches Gold, Juno, Sword, the city of Omaha, Keanu Reeves as Johnny Utah in 'Point Blank', and a picture of the old Met Office in Bracknell.

There was a programme about the D-Day landings on telly when I thought up the question, and Stagg was mentioned.

Well done, your turn.

It wouldn't be the odd one out but for a certain occurrence in the late fifteenth century.

Thanks Sgurr, thought that was worth a try. I see Berwick Rangers now play in the Lowland League.

Now try this one: what links RR and WM?
