Probably wrong, as it seemed to me to be a person. It isn't the Usher Hall is it (though it is in Lothian Road, not Lothian Street.)

Indeed it is. The statue is oft assumed to be Bonnie Prince Charlie, and was commissioned as such, but then changed to a generic Highlander.

DD is much better known than SC, accessed from a very well known and popular location.
