GPX Files - basecamp upload problems

GPX Files - basecamp upload problems

Postby partickpotter » Fri May 18, 2018 1:26 pm

I've been having some issues with a number of GPX downloads from the walk sites over the past week or so, for example Stac Pollaidh and Suilven.

The download onto my pc goes ok, but when I try and load them into basecamp the files are not being recognised.

Hi Patrick

I think this is due to an update to a new version of Basecamp, which is very fernickity about GPX files. All our GPX files are produced by our server using the exact same code so it's hard to understand why Basecamp won't open some but will others. You can open the files using any other software (such as EasyGPX), or you can just transfer them direct onto your GPS device without using Basecamp.

Patrick

We've made some changes to our GPX files and hopefully Garmin Basecamp will now open them again. Let us know if this works for you (you'll need to redownload them first)

Use GPSBabel to recode GPX Files - fixes problem
In GPSBabel select format: GPX XML

Many thanks Paul.

That seems to have fixed things.

Apologies for not getting back sooner but I've been out and about exploring the hills round Ullapool the past week - and what great weather to do it in!

Hi,

I had similar problems yesterday, with the Dùn Caan GPX file (https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/skye/duncaan.shtml). I got rid of the error by removing the following lines in the duncaan.gpx file with a text editor:
Code: Select all
<ele></ele>

A dozen points had such "empty" elevation data. After removing these lines, BaseCamp was able to read the file, and correctly included all points, including these 12 points with no elevation data. This was with BaseCamp version 4.7.4.

I hope this can help other users.

Looking forward to my first walks in Scotland in August!

Cheers from Montreal,

Martin
