Hills Maps Not Working

Postby inca » Tue Mar 16, 2021 11:32 pm

With the latest access announcements, I'm keen to start planning picking off some 'new' hills in late April and early May. Only thing is the various hills maps don't seem to be working. Clicking on the red (and for that matter the blue) balloons isn't bringing up any information. Not even individual mountain/hill names. Could just be my browser I suppose. Also haven't used the site much lately. Then again, it's not an issue I've had before. Have things changed or is there something amiss here?

I've just been to all your hill maps pages and they all appear to work fine to me. It could be that you have a corrupt file in your browser cache, in which case it will eventually go away (or you could try a hard refresh). Alternatively there could be an issue with your setup - which browser you are using etc. - if the latter is unusual then let us know.

Appreciate you getting back to me so promptly on this Paul. I'll work my way through the options you've mentioned and see if I can sort it. Cheers.

Just to add to this - I am having the same issue.

It seems to be a browser issue - it only affects Safari on MacOS for me. Safari on iOS is fine, as are Chrome and Firefox on MacOS.

There's a bug in the current version of Safari - on MacOS only - with current releases of leaflet mapping client.

I've tried to put in a workaround until this is fixed - but I don't have a MacOS device on which to check (Safari on other devices including iOS is not affected).

Hi there. I'm another MacOS Safari user. The main Bagging Maps appear to be working fine. However for me the problem is still present when trying to use the map associated with individual hills/mountains. E.g. if I try and use the map on the Ben Nevis page to click on Aonach Mor, nothing happens.

Any developments on this issue? I have no hill maps now - using Safari on my Mac
Have cleared out the cache with no change.
All's fine on my iPad

I’ve bought to an iPhone mostly to check/test this issue and some new functionality, but haven’t yet experienced hill maps not loading. It is a problem with Safari incorrectly caching files as users with two devices will experience on one device and not the other. There are posters in the thread describing different things though.

I’ve changed caching of javasript to only be for 24 hours which would mean people who experience it have it go away on its own.

Sadly it seems you cannot manually clear cache on Safari except by deleting history.

If you experience all maps not loading - such as the maps showing every walk linked from each area page - it could be that a ban has triggered on our mapping server, but I’ve never seen that happen to anyone (unless using an app to illegally cache tiles)

The maps work fine on my iPhone and iPad, just not on the iMac for the last few months. I can get round it by looking at the maps on iPad while deciding where to go. GPS planning map is unaffected (so far).

Presumably all the devices are on the same connection, and the GPS planner works too - so it's not anything to do with triggering a server ban which has happened to a few people.

Have you tried a different browser on the Mac? If it works then that would show it to be a cache issue. If it's been broken for you for a long time, it might predate the time when I changed things so that browsers don't cache so long.
