There was enough snow on the main road to warn me off the less-gritted inland routes, so I played safe with a trip to Castle Varrich.
The snow on the track told me I was the third visitor of the day - one (wo)man and a dog had been there and back before me.
The castle is worth a visit or two, and has one of the best views of Tongue, plus a new viewing platform had been installed since I last went.
I took the opportunity to visit the hill behind the castle - no path but it turned out to be an easy route.
Returned via the woods.
Warning
Please note that hillwalking when there is snow lying requires an ice-axe, crampons and the knowledge, experience and skill to use them correctly. Summer routes may not be viable or appropriate in winter. See winter information on our skills and safety pages for more information.
