Glen Affric is lovely and the big mountains above it to the north looked great from Toll Creagan last year, so I had always fancied going back. It was a lovely day.
- Across Loch Affric
Had a nice walk along the loch for about 4or5 km
- Nice tree
. The big hills in Kintail came into view off to the left
- Mullach Fraoch Coire
and about half way along the loch we turned up the glen. This is a long path, although never very steep, we had been walking for a few hours before passing a ruin in a beautiful situation and then began to see Mam Sodhal ahead
- Up the allt coire leachavie
Stopped at lunch at the head of the corrie in a very remote place, but we did get overtaken here by another couple who were making their way up
- Head of the corrie at Ciste dubh
Good zig zag path up the head wall, then a wee steep pull to a very fancy summit cairn
- Cairn
. What views! Off to the north in particular, with hundreds of hills! Then off along the very long ridge of sgurr nan lapach
- Sgurr nanllapach ridge
On the way there were nice views back to Mam Sodhal and Carn Eighe
- Mam Sodhal and Carn Eighe
Great views, especially down to the left, where the stags were bellowing at full volume
- Corrie below
. It was a looonnngg ridge, but eventually we reached the cairn
- Lapach cairn
and got great views of Loch Affric below
- Affric below
It had already been a fairly long hot day and the very steep climb down from sgurr nan Lapach was very hard on the knees, followed by a bit of a bog fest to reach the path, then down the track to the loch side and then walking a few km back to the car, quite tiring! But really enjoyed this, what a feel of remoteness as we walked and walked without seeing another soul, heaven!
