The parking area and forestry track in the description of this route is currently completely barricaded off at the moment for forestry works so we continued on the road and took the turning to the right for Kirkton of Durris, just a short way along this road is another parking area just up a forestry track on the right. There is a notice that the track to Cairn-mon-earn is closed, but the route to the summit was actually open passing through the felled forest on forestry tracks the whole way. From the summit we walked a bit further on along a muddy path to a cairn and a bench which is now on it's side but the dogs still had fun posing with it. It's just a bit longer than the WH route and a bit more ascent, but still only took us two hours. Zena found a couple of pools of mud to have fun in but other than that it isn't the most exciting of walks but another tick for Zena and it gave the dogs a good walk as they were off-lead the whole time!
