Walkhighlands

A day of high grey cloud, with a light but cold wind. The two peaks of Cruachan Dearg and Corra-bheinn are marked with the same height, 704m, but a survey in 2016 makes Corra-bheinn the higher. We had seen these two peaks the previous day from Beinn Talaidh and the round of the pair looked attractive. We parked at Teanga Brideaig. The SMC guide describes the path up the glen as wet, and this is certainly true. From the col we headed over or through various crags, gradually working our way towards the summit, which looked initially a long way away and steep at the top. There were good views of Ben More behind us. We found a way through the last short section of steep stony ground. there were fine views from the top of nearby hills but less clear in the distance northwards. We ate lunch below summit out of the wind then found a way steeply down more grass and scree patches to the col. The next slope was mostly on grass, we headed a bit to the right near the top to avoid crags. Again there were good views especially over to the Lochbuie hills. Then we headed back to the van, going steeply down, dodging various crags. On the last stretch I found the ground unpleasantly tussocky, so was surprisingly pleased to get to the poor wet track again. This day gave us quite varied walking, which made it interesting.
