Day 4 of my Summer Mountain Leader course.
Having covered nav, rope work and steep ground, terrain etc Our group of 10 socially distanced trainees and 2 leads met up at Fersit, packed to the gunnels for an overnight expedition.
Now, when climbing Munros, you tend to take the line of least resistance, but not for this. Why make it easy, lets go for boggy tracks, sodden heathery bog, rocky scrambling and ascent, all with a larger pack and full camping kit on your back.
We were obviously practising nav, map interpretation, ground reading etc on the way. Weather came and went,,fresh to start, no waterproofs,,then smir kicked in,,and not for the first time this week. On the track round under , we waterproofed up, meaning the ascent got a bit warm. Can't lie, the taxing terrain and the extra weight didn't make this easy.
