L agreed to accompany me on windy Sunday afternoon. W and I used to birdwatch in the area before him and E came along. Headed along the Roman Road following superstar_tradesman route and on up the SE slope of the hill. There was a big digger there that looked like it had digging holes for drainage pipes. There were various flocks of birds that looked a bit like grouse but not quite. Maybe they were young grouse. Did see a large net covered enclosure.
Once at the top though decided to try and get back to the Roman Road without going through the fam. Noticed that there appeared to be a very faint ATV track heading across the very boggy east part of the field at the bottom of the hill. So headed NE down the steep part of the hill. Got to the gate of the field where there were sheep and ponies but they were a way over the west part of the field. Headed through the boggy east part of the field along the now very faint ATV track. No sign of sheep or ponies trying trying to use this part of the field. Probably because it's so boggy. Reached the orange-topped pole which I think means there's some sort of underground pipe or cable there. Continued walking NE about another 10 metres along the side of the fence and hey presto there was a gate and a wee lane between the trees. Really easy. Once through the wee lane, there was the Roman Road.

Looking towards the orange-topped pole in the centre of the photo. If you head towards that and then follow the fence about another 10 metres you come to gate into a lane between the trees. Don't head towards the farm on the LHS of the photo.

This is the view once you are through the gate, pass the trees and looking back towards the lane through the trees. You would not notice it from the Roman Road

Looking the other way towards the Roman Road.
