Ben Chonzie

This is my first walk review, keeping meaning to do it but always end up forgetting.So here goes!

Starting walking about 10am, the weather report said it was going to be dry with excellent visability and it looked as tho the Met Office were right.

This was our 9th Munro, the first of the year, we thought we should break ourselves in gently so opted for Ben Chonzie. The track up the hill is well defined and easy under foot. The further we went up, the more the track started to turn into a river due to the melting snow.

Looking back

I had been told that Ben Chonzie was a pretty dull and boring Munro but i must admit i was pleasantly surprised by some of the views we got on the way up.

When we left the track to start heading to the summit some parts were boggy and covered in deep snow but nothing to bad. The plateau was very exposed and very windy at the top. The sun was still shining when we got there and we managed to grab a quick bite to eat in the shelter of the cairn.

We had just finished our lunch when the snow clouds blew in from the Lawers range so we started to make our way back down.

We decided not to follow the same track that we took up and cut a chunk out, sliding down some parts. Which was a laugh!

While me n Dave were busy sliding on our bums down the snow Gav managed to get some cracking pictures of a mountain hare!

Well thats pretty much it for this review, all n all Ben Chonzie was a good day out with some nice views and nothing to strenuous. Good start to 2011, i promise to review all all our walks in the future.

Unfortunately can't see any of you photos or the gpx. The names are there but not the pictures, eg SAM_0032.JPG. It may be that you haven't added the photos first via "Add photograph or map" at the bottom of the page. Once you've added them all, you simply click where you want each to go and click inline with text.

Love the hare photos, good that the worst of the weather stayed away.

Yup - can see the photos now Looks great and certainly nicer at the top than when we went up from the other side last year. Didn't see any hares that day but you've captured them well.

Excellent photos of the hare. I was up a few weeks ago in50mph winds and zero visibility and saw hee-haw

I have to give full bragging rights to Gav for the pictures of the hare. I was too busy messing around in the snow and missed it. I had been trying to get a picture of 1 all day but they were always to far away.
