Ambrosia - Stob Binnein and Ben More

Another historical trip copied from my hand written log. There is a print photo somewhere of the rice pudding incident. If I find it I'll update.

WX: wet, windy, in cloud at summit of SB but clear for a time on BM - cold.

Somewhat unfit on this bash – beginning to wonder if the glory days are behind. Only consolation was that Steve was not hungover and therefore no direct comparison. Also still ahead of guidebook time.

Chose an unusual route to attain the bealach between the two peaks directly. Then up the lower of the two in mist and rain and wind. No-one seen up or down.

A lone yomper with dug emerged from the mist on Ben More to meet as at the col – quite friendly. He was thinking of packing it in. We persuade him it’s only twenty minutes up from there to summit Stob Binnein and off he goes into the mist.

Shelter at a big boulder for a bit while Steve eats a can of Ambrosia creamed rice with his fingers. There never seems to be a level of grossness beyond which that individual is incapable of easily going.

Refreshed (sic) we head off up Ben More when the clouds lift revealing all plus a few distant vistas. We can even see the aforementioned walker’s progress and compare heights.

The summit of B.M. comers along rather rapidly – it seems all the work is done reaching the col.
Swarming masses defile the summit cairn so in true ‘berr’ fashion we stride to the top rock, slap it once with a palm, turn away, grunt acknowledgement to sundry greetings and walk right over and down the main path ‘up’ from the north.

Out of the wind, more Bru and sarnies then down. This way up is easy but a mega-dreary route. No-one we see seems to be enjoying themselves. One total tosser is marching up in shorts – his legs are white, goose-pimpled and blotchy. He is visibly close to hypothermia and impressing no-one.

Some attempt at running down the hill but blisters and soreness make this less than fun.

A good day snatched from brief time at home.
