Bringing my car in for MOT was a good occasion to walk this route. Weather was nice, but very crisp with a strong breeze.
I've done this walk in 2 hours, but I had my lunch in between.
Soon you're out of Maybole and away from the traffic and the landscape is quite beautiful, even in wintertime.
Most of the route you're walking on tarmac, except for the last part towards the monument on Kildoon Hill.
Terrain is good, area is quiet, landscape has a nice variety to enjoy. I'd love to hike it again on a more summery day.
Warning
Please note that hillwalking when there is snow lying requires an ice-axe, crampons and the knowledge, experience and skill to use them correctly. Summer routes may not be viable or appropriate in winter. See winter information on our skills and safety pages for more information.
