A weekend in Strathfarrar. Day two 01/05/1994
Sgurr na Ruaidhe,Carn nan Gobher, Sgurr a`Choire Ghlais & Sgurr Fuar thuill. 18km 1540m 7.30h
The club has permission for a flexible timetable in the glen. The Strathfarrar Four.
This routing of the Strathfarrar four is as laid out in the SMC book, the Munros, additional club history pinned on. A later start for a hopefully easier day. Still dark as we drive the glen to park at Coire Mhuillidh and disgorge club members, Alan Andy and Sarah. Davy stays with Joe as the team wait and they follow me to beyond Inchvuilt where I leave my car. The trip back is quiet with Davy saying he`ll stay in the motor. We park and gear up, then walk beside the burn, up a zigzag path for a stalkers path over the grassy shoulder of Sgurr na Ruaidhe@ 993m. Easy going sofar, smooth and mossy. Down to a col to climb turn W onto a boulder strewn top of Carn nan Gobhar @ 992m. The cairn sits at the N end with good views over Strath Connan. It`s here Davy catches up with us, havin changed his mind. Head SW on a mossy carpet down to an 860m col followed by a straight ridge climb along the edge of its northern corrie to Sgurr a`Choire Ghlais @ 1083m. The summit has two large cairns and an OS trig. A descent now to 900m overlooks twin lochans, .then a rise over Creag Ghorm a` Bhealaich 1030m. steep drops on the north side and a larger lochan below Sgurr Fuar thuill @1015m the last Munro of the day. Just in time clag coming in and a hint of rain. So down then to a stalkers path between it and Sgurr na Fearstaig has an interesting ridge, over two tops heading S. This option was lost when on viewing the snow choked gully two of our party pulled out binbags and slid their way down to the first lochan. Needless to say the rest had to followed suit. No skaredy cats in this lot. The walkout to the car was noisy, a nice end to an easy day.
Roll on tomorrow.
