Beinn Churalain - A Tough Wee Hill!

This is a local hill for us to do in lockdown. Always wanted to climb it as it is dominant as you approach Loch Creran Bridge heading north. The forecast was for heavy rain in the late afternoon so this was a morning outing. Even then it still tried to rain!
We parked on the north side of the bridge just as the road heads to Fasnacloich after the roundabout. Walked along the road and climbed over a set of double gates. From here we followed the old track up the hill. It is very boggy in places due to cattle using the hillside. The ruins of an old settlement come into view. Further up just below the fence is an old graveyard. It’s a graveyard with a view to die for!

From here we crossed the fence and made our way to the right until the trees thinned out. It was very steep but we zigzagged our way up and up. Suddenly the ground levels off although still undulating. A quick check on the map to find the actual summit. It was by now, blowing a hoolie! Couldn’t miss this big cairn on top. A few photos taken before a hasty retreat down. We headed down the shoulder towards Creagan Inn. Still a steep decline but easier this way. Soon located a gate which took us to the track back to the double gate at the start. A great way to spend the morning before the weather turned nasty!
