Walkhighlands

This is my first attempt at a walk report so go easy on me good folk of Walkhighlands!

Parked the car on a nice morning just before the bridge at Kilfinnan farm and along with the good lady Auds we jumped on the bikes and headed along the forest track,the track was a long slow uphill but with an obvious benefit for the return

Took the right fork and kept on till the start of the track up the Cam Bhealach,marked by a solitary boot sitting on a rock

Locked the bikes and headed up the Bhealach.



We reached the top of the Bhealach and after a quick roll decided to go for Meall na Teanga first,though it makes no difference what one you choose if doing this route.






Skirted around Meall Dubh and and headed up to Teangas north ridge and a nice easy walk to the summit cairn,the weather had closed in a little at the top so didn't get great views,ah well not for the first time


Heading back down the the cloud lifted again and we wandered back down to the Bhealach and got ready to head up Sron a'Choire Ghairbh.

There is a rather excellent stalkers path most of the way up and it really does take the sting out of it as it gently zig zags you most of the way and it's then just a short walk to the summit.


Heading back down we met an older chap in his sixties heading up and we passed the time of day with him and headed back down to the forest track,I looked back and saw him reaching the Bhealach and a good couple of ks behind us,reached the bikes again shortly afterwards and he appeared right behind us ,that was a blow to any illusions of hill fitness



Was then a nice downhill run all the way back to the car,all in all a cracking day on the hills

Know exactly what you mean re: these old codgers. About 5 years ago, took a couple of girls on to Ben Lomond and we stopped for a cuppa with an old gent - maybe 70 odd? Chatted and he bade his farewells. Well, as fast I walked to catch up with him, I never saw him again . My two ladyfriends laughed at both my competitiveness and failure. Hope for the old boys, it seems.

Great report Scott was a cracker of a day and yes I do take the better photos

Sounds like a great day out, I really liked the first two photos

I too think women take better pics but most men would disagree with me !!!

Aw, we're a nice bunch really... save for a few troublemakers .

No need for you to worry anyway - a really enjoyable report and not too long that I can't be bothered reading it all .

Great first report Scott. Like the second last pic from the summit of SaCG. I have liked the look of these two for a long time now but never yet gotten around to doing them.

Loved the report and the photos wernt half bad either. This has made the decision on what to do on the extra bank holiday so much easier.

had my own illusions of fitness shattered by the oldies aswell, last year on the carn mairg circuit, seen what i thought was 2 fit young chaps running up a fair ways behind me towards the end of the walk, well within a few minutes they were passing me by giving a little nod as they did so, and turned out they must have been 60-65 minimum, pure grey hair the lot and looking fresh as a daisy lol

haha thats the one rockhopper have you noticed how theres only like 3 months with no snow in them?

Enjoyed your report & pics. Did you have to pay to park? At the time we climbed them, I heard that the local farmer was charging walkers to park on land that was public highway anyway.

ahh...but none with white outs !

I didn't have to pay,by all accounts he came to agreement with the local council and parking is now free

I assume this to be true as he was messing around on his tractor and seemed fine.

Good report and some nice pics there. I quite enjoyed the walk in when I was there

It's true about the farmer. Parking now free. I was there at New Year and he was moving sheep about. Seemed nice enough to me

Need to get back to these hills though, as the after affects of flu over christmas meant I only had energy to crawl up one hill that day

Me too! Xmas pressie from my folks!

I'm doing the Loch Lochy two tomorrow so i'm glad of a few photos to look at to give me an idea of what's involved. I'll put a report up tomorrow night but it'll probably have to wait until after the Spanish football
