The original plan was to climb the hill from the south, but recent wet weather made me concerned that the burn may be in spate, so we decided on an approach from Loch Arkaig. At time of writing, the car park charge is £3, but you need this in coin.

The walk in undulates, which is fine on the way out, but at the end of the walk, it's a little tiresome. When we saw how high the Achray Water was, we were glad of our decision to approach this way. It was chilly and damp, although the rain held off until lunchtime and the wind was not as bad as forecast.

Once we arrived at the col we were in cloud for the final section along the confusingly knobbly terrain. However, we had a watery view from the trig down to Lochs Achray and Katrine, before more cloud rolled in. On the way to the main summit, we passed a discarded Buckfast bottle!

Can just about see Loch Katrine!

The walk down was uneventful, if wet, and we were glad to arrive at the car just before 3 for a well-earned cup of tea and creme egg.

I never seem to get Ben Venue on a clear day!
