Couldn't make up my mind about where to go so fell back on a long-standing plan to walk to Foal's Craig. My left knee was feeling a bit twingy too so I thought an easy walk might be the thing to do.

Quite a variety of wildlife encounters today.

Foal's Craig ahead.

Ascending the track behind the ruin at Dalestie.

Image
A lot of hares around.

Image
East and West Meur Gorm Craig.

Image
Still a bit to go to the top.

Ben Avon.

Image
Not sure where this is.

Image
A bit more light now.

Image

Image
Ah, something snowy in the distance that I recognise, Lochnagar. There is no escape from Lochnagar. It is also a bit of a surprise to see it. And now I am at the "top".

Lochnagar catching the light again.

No big herds of deer but there are some small groups here and there.

Image
Ben Avon again.

I descend via the grassy edge that overlooks the River Avon.

The semi-circle of plantation that is prominent on the OS map.

Blue sky over Liath Bheinn.

Image
I get to the next steepening of the descent and there is a chaos of deer, grouse and hare taking flight. This deer stops and looks round to check who I am.

Image
I rejoin the track for the last part of the descent.

Image
It is a fair walk back but now I will get to see some of the things I missed in the dark.

Turning into a pleasant day.

Last view back along the Avon.

You captured some lovely wild life photos... Haven't seen hares in a long time. Really need to get back to the Cairngorms.

Thanks! It was like a scene from Bambi at one point.

Nice sunrise 8) . We were up that way the following day. This is another good idea for the future - in case we set off for Cnap Chaochan Aitinn and run out of enrgy :)

I thought I'd get good views of the river and of the crags. Slope a bit too convex to get views of the crags but great views of the surrounding hills was good compensation. I think it would be a pleasant cycle in but watch out for hedgehogs and suchlike.
