Sgulaird has long mocked me, ever since I tried walking up it but couldn’t get through that first ravine as it was piled up with snow. I knew a re-match would come.

The forecast for Saturday was drab but dry, so we decided to do it. Comfortably in Argyll, so not breaking any lockdown rules. Early start at 8, and happened to bump into friends doing the same thing.

That first ravine was easy without snow, it looks hard to get down but isn’t. Upwards on a steady tramp from there, nothing hard, a reasonable path and the view behind getting increasingly sensational. An incredibly cold wind was blowing in from the side, the first mountain I’ve climbed with a coat on!

But.....but.....could it be? As we got higher, the clouds part and sunshine streams in. Amazing! Better and better.

The first summit at Meall Garbh shows the true summit in the distance, looks close but we know we have the rollercoasters to deal with to get there. It soon arrives with a steep Rocky drop then what looks like an impossible pull up a ridge, but it’s easy. DO NOT GIVE UP HERE!

A couple more of those, and then in one small step for mankind the summit is reached. Delicious. What a view in the sunshine!

Back down is the same in reverse. We broke off to the left just before Meall Garbh and hit the track at the bottom of the steep slopes.

What a day. Sgulaird at last laid to rest!

I would post more pics but limited technical ability means the same one reappears. Well, it was so good you get to keep enjoying it!
