07:30am and a cracking morning to start today’s walk up Beinn a’ Ghlò, three Munros and a Munro Top the targets.
- Càrn Liath looking good in the morning sun
Steep climb up the ‘steps’ to the first summit Càrn Liath, with views already magnificent looking back to the starting point. A cloud inversion just breaking up as I made the ascent.
- Making my way up Càrn Liath
- Early morning cloud starting to break up
A relief to reach the summit of Càrn Liath, there was zero wind and the silence was golden. A great start to the day!
- Looking to the next two Munros and the Munro Top from Càrn Liath
On to the next Munro then, Bràigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain, with a fine ridge walk and straightforward climb to the summit. Blue skies ahead and the temperature was rising!
- The route over to Bràigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain
Quick stop for a bite to eat on Bràigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain, I could see a few climbers ahead making their way up to the third summit, Càrn nan Gabhar, the highest point on today’s hike.
- Excellent views north from Bràigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain summit
- Càrn nan Gabhar on the left, Airgiod Bheinn on the right
On the way to Càrn nan Gabhar I saw one guy on a bike and another running past me on the ascent. Some folk just make it look easy
- Man just passed me on a bike, rather him than me :))
- Heading up Càrn nan Gabhar
Great to finally reach the highest point of the walk, Càrn nan Gabhar summit. Time for a spot of lunch and enjoy the fantastic views!
- Càrn nan Gabhar summit. A few folk already there.
- View from Càrn nan Gabhar
Next stop, Airgiod Bheinn, a nearby Munro Top.
- View from Airgiod Bheinn, looking back over to Càrn Liath
After reaching the Munro Top, it was a very steep descent down the south side of Airgiod Bheinn. I’m not sure if maybe the better option would have been to retrace my steps back to the bealach and head back down as per the suggested route on Walk Highlands. Regardless I managed to scramble my way down and eventually reach the path for what turned out to be a very long walk back to the car park.
- Looking back at Airgiod Bheinn. There is a path coming down albeit a very steep one.
- The trail back to the beginning
A 7.5 hours round trip in fantastic conditions, this was a great day out that I will no doubt do again at some point!
