Pen Y Fan from Upper Neuadd Reservoir

A gorgeous day for a walk in the Brecon Beacons; when we left home it was raining; but as soon as we got to Wales the weather cleared; and we looked set for a sunny day ahead...

After a kilometre or so along the road it's a gentle 200 metre climb to the ridge...

Sam and Vicky make it to the ridge...

And then Megan joins us; all four of us on the ridge...

It's then a few kilometres along the ridge gently uphill to Corn Du, the mountain in the distance on the left with Pen Y Fan; the highest point in the UK South of Snowdonia...

Not Sam's best landing... Hopefully the pilot got out of this mess...

Out of the wind, and a spot of lunch on route to Cribyn; some great sandwiches; pickled onion monster munch, and chocolate yogurts for the whipper snappers. Megan also get's tango'd...

The all important stats from satmap; 14.6 km in 5.5 hours with 816 metres of ascent; not bad for 6 and 8 years old...!

Great report, nice photos lots of ... Yeah that first climb isn't that gentle!!! ..I do like the Beacons, i have fond memories running around those hills with a rather large bergan on "rucsac" Thats when my knees were in good order....

Nice pics, didn't realise there was some snow still up there. Well done those little ones.

I've done this route many times, and never get bored of it. Will have to check my times next time, never timed myself properly on this route. It's also what I use to get prepared for Scotland. Will be heading that way again in the next few months.

Excellent report and pics! We did this on the same day. What about the snow, eh? Definitely didn't expect that. I came up from the north and was too lazy to go down on to windy ridge to get a picture of the plane. Guess my motivation isn't what it used to be

That aeroplane is a new additional to walk? Where was that?

To be honest, most of the time I do that walk I'm walking in thick fog so could easily walk straight past it.

I was out on the Brecons on Saturday, the weather was perfect for walking! Even managed a bit of sunburn.

These lovely pics gave me the shivers. If i ever see the fan dance again it will be a day too soon, PTSD from a previous life. Well done for getting the kids out and up, mine wouldn't go unless it was on a bus route at that age.

Vidiprinter, the crashed plane is on 'Windy Ridge', the plateau which you climb up onto on the left of the reservoir which leads to Corn Du. It's nearer the Corn Du end of the ridge. Crashed in November last year, apparently.
