Came here the back end of last year just to have a look. No entry covid etc etc...
I'll come back and I did today
Over the bridge over Moffat water and parked by the "visitor's" sign. Followed the track up through selcoth, up and round, where a decent track is being formed.
- Selcoth fisherie. Met a nice lady down at the houses, showed me the piglets!!
Stayed left of the dyke and burn and headed up towards Croft head.
Joined the fence near the top and the summit is at the junction of fences.
- Saddle yolk in the middle
Therex a SUW marker there which I followed down on a decent zig zag path to join the SUW by the info sign and sheepfold.
- The info sign and sheepfold I'm heading for
You could probably come straight down off the hill but it is rather steep - understatement. I skirted round the sheepfold and made my own way zig zagging steeply up the hill to West Knowe. I tried not to get too close to the fence and plantation on my right as that meant a steeper adcent
West knowe summit!!
From here it was down up to the main summit of Loch fell.
- Loch fell
By this point I'd already made my mind up that I wasn't going back over Croft head on the return. I knew there was a path somewhere from the burn leading back.
Craigmichen scar
- The zig zag path coming down from Croft head to the SUW. on the right you can make out the track back and another sheepfold which is basically at the crossing point
It was actually a good stalkers path / right of way, which led down to a crossing over the burn and up and onto a good track back
And a pleasant walk back. Good to get a kinda circular out of these 2 rather than a straight out and back
