We'd left home early (early for us that is) to avoid the holiday traffic on the single track road going down to Lochcarron. Nevertheless there was the odd camper van around but most were still in the laybys with the curtains firmly closed! It's a long time since we'd been over the bridge to Skye, the last time was about five years ago on the way home from a trip to Orkney. We headed down the road to the Kylerhea ferry - what a beautiful road but keep it quiet please. There had been a Radio 5 interview with the ferry owner a few months ago which is something we must do at some time. We found the parking spot at the bealach where there was a car already parked and got ready for the walk. One can only describe it as up, up, up. At first it was across boggy tussocky ground, then knee deep heather but at last we got onto decent ground. But it was still up. Soon we were at the lochan that we'd been heading for for and from the views to our two hills opened up. It didn't take long to reach the first summit of Sgùrr na Coinnich. From here the view over to Beinn na Caillich made it look as if it was impossible to climb! Oh well, it is Skye after all. It was an easy walk off the hill and we contoured across to the foot of B na C. We headed for pinky coloured slabs which we thought offered the most promising route up. It was a steep pull up to the top - across grass and boulders. Once at the top, the views were glorious - the Cuillin Ridge had just come out of cloud, the Knoydart hills were in full majestic glory as were the hills we'd recently climbed on Applecross. There is something magical about being on ground that's surrounded by water.

I hadn't been looking forward to the descent but it was easier than I'd feared. We then headed for the bealach and then contoured down to the road. Why does the road never seem to get any closer when you're going down hill? We then had a short walk back to the car and then the drive home amidst all the camper-vans!
