Over the years this, and variations of it, has been one of my favourite walks, and the Southern Uplands at their best. I have always done it in an anticlockwise direction starting with Carlavin Hill. If you are travelling a long way you could consider extending to White Coomb to include a Corbett.
The only possible drawback to this walk is that, if you rely on Landranger maps, you will need to take 3 sheets, 72, 78 & 79, probably not a problem as nearly everyone uses GPS or phone these days, or in my case the back of my hand!
