Munro Two Hundred and Three

This promised to be another easy and short day for Alex, Steve, Tommy and me but were enjoying being out in the lonely hills to the west of Glen Etive in sunny weather.
We left our camp site on the beach at the east end of Lochan na Fola and traversed undulating ground to the twin lochans of Airigh nan Lochan. Here we left both our heavy bags and Tommy - the sensible one amongst us who sometimes prefers to read a book rather than flog up a slope for another tick on a list! From the lochans, the ridge up Beinn Sgulaird was initially gentle and grassy but, eventually, a scattering of rocky buttresses provided some scrambling and the summit was worth reaching - the views to the south west were stunning.
Despite seeing a distant figure on the summit, the top was deserted when we got there and we headed down to Etive alongside the forest having met nobody between the summit ridge of Bidean on Sunday and our return to the floor of the glen. All things considered, it had been an excellent three days and we enjoyed a beer in the Clachaig that night.
